A good word for a clerical domain.

I watched several documentaries on the middle ages a while back, and I remember one in particular about the sometimes vast holdings given to the church by various lords in return for varied concessions from the church and its allies. I remember there being a specific word for a region governed by the head of the church (often a bishop) instead of a local lord, but I can’t remember that name. I don’t think the word was Bishopric…

Diocese or prelature?

It’s also called a See.

It is indeed a diocese, which is also known as a bishopric.

Since we’re throwing around definitions.
