OOC Discussion

sounds good to me

We will need meatshields. I intend to hire a few once I have spare coin. In the meantime, I will carry a torch or lantern to give light to the front rank.

Aria is definitely a second-rank fighter. She uses a pole arm and has leather armor!

I’ll put her in the second rank if needed, but she (in addition to Miska the Cleric) has the best AC out of everyone, a +1 to damage and a nasty 6+ attack throw. The other two melee types have worse AC, the paladin has only one additional hp, and both of them have worse attack throws. Plus, she’s going to be wicked impossible to surprise or get the drop on.

Again, if you’d like I can totally re-arrange it so that she’s in the second rank, but it seems like from a logistical viewpoint she should be a front-ranker.

Just to let everyone know, I am traveling this coming week, and I have no idea whether or not I’ll have an internet connection. I am going to try and get a number of things posted before I leave tomorrow (e.g. hex map, gods, more geographic info, etc.), including an intro post to set up a number of rumors and choices. You lot can work out where you’d like to head from there, and we’ll get rolling at the start of the following week. This also gives you some time to figure out a few SOPs. Does that work for everyone?

Sounds good to me!

I’m moving tomorrow, so I may be out or spotty for a few days (in fact I’d expect this might be the last time I have free to post until things settle). I’ll weigh in on whatever is being discussed once that’s dealt with.

Excellent! I’ll admit I was hoping the timing would coincide with your move.

I’d really prefer Aria to be in the second rank at least until 2nd level. A character with 6hp can be killed in one hit by a 1HD monster, while a character with 7hp or 8hp cannot. She can move forward when the front rank gets hurt.

Unfortunately, I will be traveling internationally the last week of the month. I may or may not log into the interwebs during my trip.

How’s this for take two:

Miska (Cleric) | Aria (Bladedancer)
Hengist (Fighter) | Gwydion (Elven Enchanter)
Kaul (Thief)* and wardog | Masov (Bard) *
Kerrick (Paladin) | Andrew (witch)

Again, I assumed that the ability to cast at opponents in melee (especially if the enchanter gets Sleep) outweighs the benefits of having another spear in the second rank. However! Once melee is joined and any spells are cast we can always rotate Kerrick and Gywdion, to bring that extra spear to bear.

Alright, take 3:

Miska (Cleric) | Hengist (Fighter)
Aria (Bladedancer) | Gwydion (Elven Enchanter)
Kaul (Thief)* and wardog | Masov (Bard) *
Kerrick (Paladin) | Andrew (witch)

Does this work for everyone?

Understood. That should still give us a week before you go away.

The amount of boxes surrounding me would put the lie to any claim that I am done moving, but I have at least successfully translated my position and gotten my computer and internet working.

Just a heads up to the party that if there’s discussion to do, I am basically around to contribute to it.

Any idea of our start date? I’m all ready to go.

Morituri te salutant!

I believe everyone is ready. The trouble is that I’m traveling, and have only had sporadic internet access, almost entirely from my phone, all of which hasn’t been conducive to significant posts. If it’s any consolation, I’ll be back at the end of the week, and I am otherwise ready to go.

Aut non…

Cool. I’d still like to resolve finding a henchmen before we depart anywhere.

No problem. Let’s see…what kind of offer are you making?

With the upcoming Fool’s Day celebrations, you’re going to need to drop 7gp on getting the word out and attracting the attention of someone who isn’t going to set out on their own.

I’ll start by offering 15% of my own share of treasure, plus 12 gold a month salary. I’ll outfit with leather armor, spear and javelins before we set out. (Or if I can find a mercenary willing to sign on as a henchman with his own arms I’d pay a signing bonus of 25 gold.)

[If a prospect seems doubtful I’ll try going up to 20% of my share of treasure, but I don’t really have room to go higher on a bonus.]

So, I don’t know how you want to do this, but I’ve always assumed the henchmen’s share comes out of the group treasure, and not the individual’s.
