OOC Discussion

Hey folks...just wanted to pop in to apologise for the delay. Dealing with an ill family memeber the last few days. I should be able to post again late tonight or tomorrow morning. Again, my apologies.

I feel like I'm all aplogies. There's a song lyric in there somewhere...

I'm slightly at sea somehow, even with the map.  Can Hengist reach the silent group with a charge?  With a non-charge move and still attack?

No, he can't reach them with a charge, as they are not in line of sight. I'll do up a map this afternoon so we're all on the same page.

how many round did it take me to climb to that roof?

That's a really excellent question, actually...I had to go and calculate Kaul's Encumbrance when I originally worked out the climb, so I could figure out where the group the party was pursuing would be when he made it to the top. I made a couple assumptions:

  1. Kaul left his spear and 10' pole behind at the cottage
  2. His Encumbrance without those is around 6 stone, giving him MV 90' (30')
  3. He didn't carry his dog, Cynis, up the wall with him (meaning Cynis is on the ground where Kaul began his ascent)
  4. Kaul can ascend ~1 story per round, taking a bit less than 30 seconds to reach the roof

I would also ask that you add your current Encumbrance and Movement to your Character Sheet so it's easy to look up.

Seems like a silence spell? Would the casters or I be able to deduce that?

Masov considers what he has seen, but has never seen anything like this before.

I've been tied up the last couple days...I'll post tomorrow. Hopefully a couple returning players will post by then, too!

Let me know if you need more information regarding Gwyddion’s actions.

I’m confused by enemy positioning. Where’d the black-clad man go, if he managed to get out of range of my horse’s movespeed?

This is gonna suck!  I thought I was getting into old-school play by now, but I don't even have a bag of flour in my equipment list.  If we ever get some gold, and Hengist actually survives, I'm going shopping.

Not sure if serious...

I'll post an image after work today to clarify relative positioning.

On top of that, we're in the one OSR game where we could successfully profit via arbitrage due to adventurer demand for that particular trade good....

Okay, hopefully that clarifies where everyone is.

I’m still confused about distances; if I can’t reach any enemies, could I reach the body in a sack this round?

(Willing to run if necessary, which would get me up to a total of 180’ of movement for the round.)

Based on your Encumbrance, I believed your Movement on horseback was 90' (Medium Riding Horse, total weight ~30 stone+). Am I wrong? Kerrick is Str 18 and Con 13, so by no means small; I would guess he is at least 20 stone, if not more. He wears 6 stone in armor (banded plate, shield), carries a spear (1 stone), and has ~1 stone for saddle and tack plus backpack and associated gear. For movement, I'm willing to be corrected. Certainly, if he's somehow below 30 stone total, his mounted Movement is faster, and he can reach the slouched figures, either climbing the inn, or the one headed around the east side near Gwydion, by jumping the low fence around the inn's paddock. As Kerrick came around the building the blackclad figure was nowhere to be seen, although it's moonlit with only a single torch for illumination. Kerrick could, in theory, reach the torchbearer, but every time he looks towards him with the intent of charging, Kerrick is struck by a dizzying sensation and the torchbearer slips from view.

Oh, yes, and to be clear, my understanding was that Kerrick was going to attempt to charge the torchbearer this round. However, when attempting to do so, something...strange...and perhaps sorcerous, prevented him. Had there been another enemy nearby, he may have been able to attack, but no such target was available (the black clad figure has disappeared). He can still reach the sack without setting his horse to gallop.

Our differing weight count is based on a different guess of Kerrick’s weight, I had guessed about 15 stone (between 150 and 210 lbs), which puts his total weight (gear included) at 25 or 26 stone.

(The fact that a stone is between 10 and 14 lbs makes it great as an abstract measure for encumbrance, but hard to guess how much a character weighs!)

And I had not realized that the blackclad figure disappeared! I must have missed that.

I will go count my gear and figure out the exact value for Kerrick’s weight that would put me at 30 stone or less so we know what that is.

edit: The weight of Kerrick’s gear that is currently being carried by the horse is 10 stone.
armor - 5
shield - 1
spear - 1
saddle and tack - 1
pennant and pole - 1
backpack/saddlebag contents - 1
total - 10

So if his personal weight is 20 stone or less, total weight is low enough to get the fast movement. I’ll defer to your judgement on that, as I’ve realized that 15 stone was probably an excessively low estimate. (I’m also going to write it down on my character sheet so we don’t have to do this again :p)

edit again because I probably should have replied to the second post; yes, you did have my plans correct, and I did manage to pick up that a spell foiled them! (Not a real surprise given that even if my protection aura applied, I’d still need to roll a 16+ to save  ) The big issue of my confusion was that I didn’t realize the blackclad one was no longer visible; sorry about causing this whole thing!
