Our differing weight count is based on a different guess of Kerrick’s weight, I had guessed about 15 stone (between 150 and 210 lbs), which puts his total weight (gear included) at 25 or 26 stone.
(The fact that a stone is between 10 and 14 lbs makes it great as an abstract measure for encumbrance, but hard to guess how much a character weighs!)
And I had not realized that the blackclad figure disappeared! I must have missed that.
I will go count my gear and figure out the exact value for Kerrick’s weight that would put me at 30 stone or less so we know what that is.
edit: The weight of Kerrick’s gear that is currently being carried by the horse is 10 stone.
armor - 5
shield - 1
spear - 1
saddle and tack - 1
pennant and pole - 1
backpack/saddlebag contents - 1
total - 10
So if his personal weight is 20 stone or less, total weight is low enough to get the fast movement. I’ll defer to your judgement on that, as I’ve realized that 15 stone was probably an excessively low estimate. (I’m also going to write it down on my character sheet so we don’t have to do this again :p)
edit again because I probably should have replied to the second post; yes, you did have my plans correct, and I did manage to pick up that a spell foiled them! (Not a real surprise given that even if my protection aura applied, I’d still need to roll a 16+ to save ) The big issue of my confusion was that I didn’t realize the blackclad one was no longer visible; sorry about causing this whole thing!

ACKS notes the historical weight of a stone was between 8 lbs and 14 lbs, but that ACKS simply assumes a stone is 10 lbs when weight is actually in question. Kerrick's Strength is in the top 0.5% of the human population, and he is above average in toughness (Constitution 13), putting him in the top quartile of the population there...if size was an exact correlation (it's not, but the two, particularly Strength, track), he'd be in the top 0.375%. The upshot is that I figure he is a pretty big guy! I'd be willing to go as low as 20 stone (i.e., 200 lbs), but I'd be very hard-pressed to believe anything lower. I'll let you ultimately decide

No worries! To be specific, the black clad individual didn't disappear...he ran out of the party's direct line of site behind the building, and when the various party members came around the corner, he was gone.
Kaul expected he can get another blowout bow shot or two before the climbers reach the roof; they are about two -thirds of the way up. The torchbearer, as near as any of you can tell, is headed along the road towards the temple. What is everyone doing?
My poor horse must be thinking “what is wrong with you, I just jumped that fence”.
For clarification, is the torch by the open palisade gate to outside the town, or the gate to inside the temple? (I’m not chasing a semi-invisible guy alone in the darkness either way, I just want to make sure I know which to tell the others when I make my horse jump the fence a third time.)
Your horse has definitely broken a sweat; as we determined, Kerrick is no lightweight!
The torch lies on the ground beside the gate in the town's palisade. You are heading south towards that gate now. The cloaked individual that had been bearing the torch is not immediately visible, even as you glance sidelong at the street ahead.
I was waiting for Kerrick, Masov, and Gwydion...what are they doing this round? The black clad man appears dead, there is a climber who has fallen getting to its feet beside the inn, and the torchbearer has seemingly just moved out the gate a few seconds ago (not long enough to outpace a horse), dropping a torch while doing so.
Dont worry, they are dead and now we can loot. by the way i keep the idea that we sell al magic items at the end of this mision, save maybe for +1 weapons. 5% more AC vs getting to level 2 faster dosnt seem like a good deal to me.
