Its good to see that the crossbow manufacturers take into consideration the needs of the blind crossbowmen.

As there've been no further posts, I'm going to assume the party beds down for the night, then heads into town in the morning, barring any nighttime calamity. I'll also assume 4 night watches based on marching order ranks, with Aria and Gwydion going last before the dawn, and the front rank of Hengist and Miska taking the witching hour. You might want to set up an SOP for camping in the wilderness...

Oh, and thirdkingdom's post in the SOP thread hasn't been updated with Dagmar.

That's because a consensus was never reached. There were two options proposed -- post 39 and 42 -- but not enough people weighed in vote one way or the other.

I thought 42 had more, and more recent, input - Lucas putting his dog in rear rank, getting Andrew the healer out of rearguard. Mason could certainly veto if he feels he's being voluntold for rearguard, otherwise I see no reason to wait for everyone to vote to adopt the latest version.

I've gone ahead and deleted my post in the SOP thread regarding marching order, if you'd like to post the new order there.

I'd really like to hear from everybody before I continue. Clearly, things are about to get a bit more involved, so if you can please try and hit the 1 post per day target. I'll move things forward sometime tomorrow morning.

Should be clear from the image I just posted.

Waiting for a couple more responses before continuing... although it's a long weekend in the US and Canada, so the next couple days may be a bit slow.

It's currently not a problem, as there is at least one inn in Orlean. Assuming you stay there and pay for food, of course.

Sorry, the next post regarding the Baron is taking a bit longer to write, and I've been offline just about all of today due to the holiday here. The post will go up tomorrow. Again, sorry for the delay. Also, check your PMs.

Question: If this was a live game, I'd likely be doing some OOC conversation about what we'd ask of the baron, and we'd then elect the highest CHA PC (Kerrick) to be our speaker.

I think we've been doing OK with the more natural conversations with low-priority NPCs; do we want to have any sort of pause for collection of thoughts in the sorts of situations where we may want to have a 'representative', of sorts, in the future?

(this is the first PbP game for me, so I'm still sussing out differences in a approach between this and live play)

I am purposefully being deferential to the high CHA leaders for this reason.

If there are important questions, or a particular approach you want to take, it's definitely worth doing, and I am always willing to wait for that to happen. I haven't really been waiting long thus far, as you are just at the stage of sussing out what is going on, and I want to keep things moving. As I'm sure you've noticed, you've wandered into the least immediately combative, and least straightforward of the rumours from Castle Blackmarsh. This is killing Alex, clearly! Back to koewn's original question, the Baron seems to have reacted favourably (or at least neutrally) to the party, not really showing preference for any of you in particular, and it doesn't seem crucial that only Gwydion (with his high Charisma and aura) speak to him, for example.

I seem to recall somebody suggesting that we go after the goblins. In fact, we could still do that, if desired.

Note that I'm not the DM of this game. In my experience, the most critical thing that determines the success of a pbp game is maintaining momentum. You want to try and do everything possible to keep the momentum going, and nothing kills momentum faster than waiting on one player -- who might be sick, bogged down at work, without internet access or simply dropped from the game without saying anything -- to respond to a post. Therefore, I've found it best to simply apply the best Charisma modifier of everyone present during social situations. That way, if you've got four players with no or negative modifiers and one with positive modifiers who happens to be a slow poster the game can continue without waiting too long.

Yeah, that's reasonable. As I said, I only really wait on truly important decisions. With what's happened so far, I've simply gone with whoever has responded first.

Okay, so this is one of those points where the party needs to decide what to do, and I'm willing to wait a little. Keep in mind that you need not all do the same thing; I'm perfectly willing to handle several groups.

As a player I'm more immediately curious about the Solist temple, but I agree with the in-character thread that we need to talk to some residents as well. Hengist may find himself distracted in town if it looks like a majority of the party are heading straight to the temple.

"It is for that reason that I intend to stride in and throw down a gauntlet, informing them that I suspect them and that if they have been tainted, I will find them. Once that is complete, then if they are indeed tainted, they will surely be plotting my removal, and I will be able to identify them."

Back on the road until Thursday. Gwydion's chief priorities are chow and providing a smooth-tongued variant to whatever Kaul presents at the eatery.

I kept doing this while trying to respond to him;

https://fozmeadows.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/speechless.gif

because my instinct to recruit everyone possible was at odds with what my gut felt Kerrick would do, but I couldn't come up with a way to phrase his reaction.

I'm finding some tension between making every post meaningful but still posting once a day. In face to face games, when someone makes a play, sometimes I just wait to see how it works out. But I'm still following along, and I'll look for an opportunity to make some trouble.

I'm guessing that if there are no other questions, Andrew, Kerrick, Masov, Aria, and Hengist are going to leave the temple? If so, what's your next move?

Same question for those of you at the Inn: what's your next move? Pay and eat? Run off?

Can we get the rest of the party weigh in on a next move?

Stay in town? Leave and head elsewhere, leaving Orlean to its fate? Approach the Constable about "mercenary work" or something else? Raid the Temple? Stake out the inn? Check the abandoned buildings? Find the "Baron's elves"? Stake out the town overnight? Talk to those the Baron no longer trusts? Speak to someone else? Something else I haven't thought of?
