Proficiency Progression

Hi there,

We’ve recently started playing ACKS and we’re haveing a pretty good time. We’re using a number of classes from the Players Companion and I’m wondering if there is somewhere to find a chart like the one on page 56 of the ACKS core book for when each of these new class gains new proficiencies. I know we can work out when they get them ourselves but a nice chart would be a good way to make sure no one forgets when they level up.

(And as a suggestion if you ever put out new editions it’d be great to note on each classes advancement chart when they gain new proficiencies in addition to their attack throw and special powers progressions).

Ok, and follow up question now that I’m looking more closely: The rule in the ACKS core book says “Characters may choose one additional proficiency chosen from their class list each time they complete a full (2-point) saving throw progression.” It then goes on to say that a figher for example gets a class proficiency at level 3. But at level 3 according to the fighters saving throw chart they’re still at the same saving throws as level 2. So why do they get a class proficiency then instead of at level 4 which is when they actually make that two point progression?

The proficiency progression thing is a bit inaccurate. Fighters get a class proficiency every 3rd level, clerics/thieves every 4th, mages every 6th. Fighters advance in saves and attack throws by 2 every 3 levels, clerics/thieves by 2 every 4 levels, and mages by 2 every 6 levels. So that sort of lines up, but saves and attack throws start improving after 1st level, but proficiencies are tallied from 1st level (even though everyone gets a proficiency at 1st level). Basically, the description is slightly wrong.

And the new classes get their proficiencies based on their attack/saving throw progression: either as fighters (3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th), as clerics/thieves (4th, 8th, 12th), or as mages (6th, 12th). In addition to the 1st level class proficiency and the general proficiencies (1st, 5th, 9th, 13th) of course. It should be easy to make the list based on that! (I’d make one but honestly I don’t feel like taking 15 minutes to do that right now… I’ll probably make one for myself at some point anyway, though.)

Thanks! That helps a lot. Yeah I figured I could put together a chart I was just wondering if there was already one and I just hadn’t managed to see/find.
