Edit: we kind of stalled out a bit, so if anyone wants to go ahead and grab a second or third post, please feel free. in addition, don't feel obliged to grab them in order. if you see a field you'd like to define, go ahead and claim it, and i'll sort it out when we're done.

This is an idea I had seen on various G+ groups doing things like post a hexmap and each person takes a turn populating the contents of a hex.  This will be slightly more complicated since some of the fields will depend on those above it, so be sure to follow my suggestions below:

  • when you first reply, simply list the number you wish to claim and nothing else, then hit reply.
  • Go back and verify that nobody claimed the same number (unless that number allows for multiple entries)
  • if there's a tie for a single entry field, give precedence to the first person to post.
  • when you're sure you have a number, go back to your post and edit in your contribution.
  • some of the fields may be strictly crunching numbers. feel free to grab a calculations only field along with your other, or to grab a second field if you're about to grab a calculated field.
  • We may have more fields than contributers, so feel free to contribute multiple times.  Try not to get more than 2 or 3 ahead of anyone else who is still actively contributing.
  • When all numbers have been filled in, either I or someone else will go back and compile everything into a single entry.  Maybe somebody ambitious will fill out an actual domain sheet.  That will be a good time for a post mortem as well, so we can discuss tweaks to the empty list.

Alright, that's it.  Here's our list of fields!

  1. Civilization Level (Civilized/Borderlands/Wilderness)

  2. Ruler rank (Baron/Marquis/Count/Duke/Prince/King/Emperor or cultural equivalent)

  3. Ruler Name

  4. Ruler Class

  5. Realm Name

  6. Number of Vassals

  7. Size of personal domain

  8. Land Value

  9. Size of vassal domains (either a single size, or individual sizes, which then depends on [Number of Vassals])

  10. Population, both rural and urban (depends on [civilization level] and [size of personal domain] for maximum possible rural people)

  11. Net Domain Income (this depends on a lot of things and may be better off farther down the list)

  12. Market (Depends on [size of personal domain] for urban population)

  13. Gives liege lord (thanks to Axioms, this only depends on [population] and [Land Value])

  14. Ruler Max Level From Domain XP (depends on [Net Domain Income], and sort of on [ruler's class])

  15. Stronghold Value (requires [Civilization Level] and [Size of Personal Domain] to determine minimum value required)

  16. Garrison (requires [Civilization Level] and [Population] to determine minimum... unless the domain is experiencing a morale penalty...)

  17. Field Army

  18. Pillaging (can't remember what this requires, but it seems like a calculated field)

  19. Razing (same)

  20. Ruler Motivation

  • this can be claimed multiple times,

  • preferably a number of times that is a multiple of a die result

  • each entry goes into a table

  • 4=d4, 5= 2d3-1, 6 = d6, 7 = 2d4-1, 8 = d8, 9 = 2d5-1, 10 = d10, 11 = 2d6-1, etc.

  1. Other important NPCs

  • can be claimed multiple times

  • depending on size and nature of them, either they all exist or you roll for one

  1. Increased or decreased demand modifiers (depends on [Land Value]

  • can be picked a number of times as prescribed Domain Specific Adjustments on page 233 of Core ACKs

Doesn't number 1 depend on the locations of settlements? Or does it include picking how many sizeable settlements there are in and nearby the realm?

Not necessarily, a barony can be civilized or wilderness based on a city not in its realm. I assumed pinning down that would define the rest, but you raise a good point that it would limit the maximum size of the urban settlement in the domain, potentially.

#1 Civilization Level: Borderlands

because the best adventures start in the borderlands!

this means there can be a maximum of 15/250 rural families per 1.5/6 mile hex, the urban settlement can be no larger than a small town, and the stronghold must be at least 1,500gp per 1.5 mile hex (22.5kgp per 6mi hex), though it might be more if the domain was once wilderness.

(ok, I wanted to let someone else go first, but I'll get the ball rolling.)

I haven't had a chance to actually see the domain rules in play yet, so feel free to yell at me if I get something particularly wrong. :P

#2 Ruler Rank: Marquis (or equivalent)

The lowest rank that would still allow for a few vassals, perhaps even an ex-adventurer who has now begun to truly establish themselves as something more, but are still "at the kiddie table" as far as the political scene goes (assuming their own border-related problems don't take precedence!).

The tables suggest this would give a personal domain of around 320 families, an overall realm size of 960-1280 families, and 5-7 total domains. The overall realm will probably be no more than a handful of 6 mile hexes (likely not even an entire 24 mile hex)...

I edited the original post, but i'll include it here as a reply as well: we kind of stalled out a bit, so if anyone wants to go ahead and grab a second or third post, please feel free. in addition, don't feel obliged to grab them in order. if you see a field you'd like to define, go ahead and claim it, and i'll sort it out when we're done.
